Gray, red nape, yellow on wings - what is it?

Howdy!  I've tried ID'ing this one on and off for the past several months (see attached pics).  Seen in my backyard in July (upstate NY).

FLicker?

Is this a Northern Flicker? I have never seen one! My books says there is a Northern and a Gilded but there is no pic of a Gilded included... help?
